Upgrading the La Daille Gondola
New building work has already begun to upgrade the existing POMA gondola lift, which travels from 1802m at La Daille over the OK (Oreiller Killy) piste to 2294m.
The current 4-seater gondola lift was built in 1966 then then renovated in 1994.
Cutting edge gondolas
The new lift will have 50 state-of-the-art ‘Symphony 10’ gondolas with 10 seats.
The gondolas were created by Italian designer Pininfarina (who have also done design work for Ferrari and Maserati). They will have heated seats and wi-fi and improved sliding doors. There will also be a 4-seater VIP gondola.
Speed and capacity both significantly improved
The uphill lift capacity will be 2800 people an hour – a big increase on the current 933 – mainly because the cabin speed will double from 3m/sec to 6m/sec. The journey time will fall from 9 minutes to 4 minutes 30 seconds. The number of pylons will decrease from 16 to 12.
There will also be a 100 sqm new covered information and ski pass sales area built in the base station. Importantly, the new lift will still offer access to La Folie Douce for pedestrians!
