Regular visitors to Val d’Isère will be aware that in the last few years, the Solaise area of the resort has seen significant changes.
First up was the upgrading of the original Solaise four-man chairlift to a top-of-the-range gondola. The new lift opened at the start of 2016/17 winter season and increased the lift capacity to 3600 skiers and snowboarders per hour, with 91 state-of-the-art cabins, equipped with wifi.
The new lift increased carrying capacity of the old chairlift by 40% compared with the old lift, which had been in place since 1942.
That was just the first stop of a project costing €11 million to improve the Solaise sector. At the arrival point of the gondola, a new US-style lodge, named…’Le Lodge’ opened for the 2017/18 season.
This offers restaurants, lockers, table football (‘babyfoot’ to the French), a kids’ corner and picnic areas as well as an affordable café selling croissants and hot drinks.
Just outside is an upgraded beginners area with a magic carpet and gentle green slope, as well as a tubing area.
New hotel at 2550m
Coming next is the regeneration of the old top station of the Solaise cable car. This building dates back to 1948 and will offer people the chance to stay at 2550m overnight in 10 rooms, 6 apartments and a dormitory with 14 beds.
It will cost around €100 euros for a night in dorm and €400-800 for one of the apartments. If that sounds on the expensive side, maybe the fact that it has a 20m pool and spa with views overlooking the valley, will change your mind.
Alternatively, you might just want to enjoy Val d’Isère in one our catered chalets instead – check out our full range here.
The new hotel will open for winter 2018/19.
