If you’ve been in Val d’Isère recently you might possibly have seen a car flying through the air. But no, it’s not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or the DeLorean from ‘Back to the Future’ but a Fiat 500!
In this case it was a sculpture by French artist Stéphane Cipre to celebrate sixty years since the first Fiat 500 came out.
‘A humorous take on skis’
The sculpture/car weighs 600kg and is described as ‘a humorous take on skis’, with a whole load of them crammed into a car, and was carried up to the summit of Bellevarde at 2500m by helicopter.
Val d’Isère Téléphériques used a specialised helicopter company known as Blugeon Hélicoptère to transport the aluminium car from La Daille to Bellevarde opposite the Funival arrival point.
