Ski-Val General Information

We want you to feel at home during your stay with us, hopefully the following will help you understand what to expect and cover any questions you may have or give us a call for a chat! Please do also, refer to our Chalet Living pages.

Our chalets all vary in age and character and rooms are not standard in size or appearance. Plumbing, storage space, electrics, soft furnishings, space and ratio of comfy chairs to guests  maybe more limited than what you take for granted at home. Austrian twins are two mattresses on a double frame, the beds cannot be separated. All our chalets have good domestic hot water supplies, it will, however, go further if baths are not filled too deeply!!

Your chalet may also be home to chalet/resort staff and owners may live in, please check at the time of booking if this is important to you.

Chalet Staff Day Off

Our chalet staff have some well deserved time off each week, this is usually Wednesdays in France and Thursday for St. Anton in Austria but your chalet staff will confirm this with you (this may vary during Christmas and New Year weeks). On this day breakfast and afternoon tea are left out for you to help yourselves but there will be no chalet cleaning and we leave you free to explore local restaurants. Your chalet staff will be happy to make recommendations or book a table on your behalf.

Changeover Day

We ask all our guests to be sympathetic to the fact that on changeover day some incoming and outgoing guests will overlap for part of the day. If at all possible, changing/storage facilities will be provided but these will be shared with both arriving and departing guests. Please co-operate with the staff and ensure you vacate your room by the given time. Check in for independent travellers is ideally after 15.00 and for departure day, check out is after breakfast so around 09.00.

Children are welcome in any of our chalets at any time. Please bear in mind that our properties were not designed with children in mind and so are not 'childproof' for example electric sockets do not have safety covers and stairs don't have gates, Please also ensure you are familiar with the layout of bedrooms within the chalet  as these maybe on different floors or separate to other bedrooms. Children's behaviour and their safety remain the sole responsibility of their parents at all times. When you have not taken over sole use of a chalet, under 12s are expected to have children's early supper. For more details please look at the Children pages for the relevant resort.

Damage in chalets

Much as we hate doing anything to limit our guests' pleasure, we have a duty to ensure later guests do not have to suffer tatty chalets or broken furniture, and regret to say it is a condition of booking that anyone who damages any item will pay the full cost of repair or replacement before leaving. Most insurance policies cover genuine accidental damage!. We reserve the right to take a damage deposit prior to travel.

Extra Beds

Additional beds (camp beds or similar) can be provided in some of our chalets at our discretion, but use of these extra beds will put a strain on chalet facilities. Please check with all the members of your group that they are happy to have more than the recommended number of guests staying in the chalet before asking our reservations staff to arrange additional beds.

Floor plans

Please note that our floor plans are intended as an approximate guide only and are to help to give you an idea of the chalet lay out. They are not exact or to scale and any furniture shown are representative only.

All of our chalets operate a 'No shoes indoor' policy so please ensure you take your slippers or suitable indoor shoes. This is for your safety and comfort as much as the benefit of the chalet.

Some of our chalets have hairdryers but we would always advise you to take your own hairdryer. We have a small supply of hairdryers available in resort if you do forget your own, please ask your chalet staff.

Internet / wifi

Internet/wifi is available free of charge in all of our chalets, however, in most instances  belongs to the chalet owner so its availability is outside of our control. Please bear in mind that in the mountains, signal strength can vary, may not always be that strong or suitable for large amounts of streaming. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that it will be operative or that there will be continuous and uninterrupted connection. In the event of technical or other issues preventing access, no refund or compensation will be paid. Bear in mind that access may not be available throughout the chalet and maybe in communal areas only. We recommend that if accessing or downloading is essential during your holiday, you have your own data/roaming package for back up or make use of a local internet shop.

Laundry facilities

Our chalets do not have washing machines or laundry facilities for use by guests but there are launderettes in all of our resorts.

Linen & towels

Bed linen and  towels are provided with mid week towel changes available on requiest.. If we are providing you with a travel cot, it is advisable to  bring your own cot linen/child sleeping bags (or we can provide single bed linen).

Meal Times

Breakfast is served from 08.00 until 09.30. Afternoon tea in the chalets is left out for you to help yourself  but is served in  the Chamois d'Or from 4.30 ( during the early part of the season tea may be served earlier from 4pm).  Dinner generally starts around 7.30. Children's early supper is served about 6pm, this is for all children under 12 years unless an upgrade has been paid.

Saunas/Steam rooms/jacuzzi/ swimming pools

For those chalets that benefit from these facilities, and for Health & Safety compliance, access is generally limited to between 16.30 & 19.00 and not on staff day off or arrival/departure day. Jacuzzis are emptied, cleaned and refilled on change over day and will therefore not be available on this day. Your chalet staff will confirm all these details to you. Should these facilities become unavailable for any reason, we cannot guarantee being able to replace parts or repair it during your holiday but will obviously do our best. We do not offer compensation for inconvenience or curtailed use in such event. Please note that particularly for those chalets with outdoor hot tubs, there are local rules and regulations with regards noise and  respect for neighbours. For this reason, their use is not allowed after dinner.

NB: Use of chalet domestic hot tubs is subject to local laws, we cannot be held responsible if these should change.

Our chalets do not have safes for securing guests valuables and as with most chalet holidays, our chalets are not generally locked and few bedrooms have keys. Where possible keys will be provided for a small deposit. We therefore recommend you do not take valuables on holiday with you. In some chalets, parts of the building maybe shared by other residents, chalet owners or staff using the same communal entrance.

Ski/Board Carriage

Subject to availability we may be able to offer a special pre-booked ski/board carriage rate of around £50 (NON REFUNDABLE) however there is a strict limit as to the numbers of sets we can offer. Subject to airline availability, carriage maybe available at the airport at additional cost.

To ensure everyone's comfort and safety, smoking/vaping is not permitted inside any of our chalets or chalet hotels, this includes any bars.

Special Diets/dietary requests/food allergies

Our chalet staff always aim to please and create menus everybody likes. We provide a vegetarian alternative for guests that don’t eat meat or that evening choice of meat or fish and within reason and with plenty of notice, our staff will do their best to adapt the chalet  menus for those with dietary requests whether religious or health. However, please do bear in mind that chalets are mostly private houses and do not have vast kitchens or teams of chefs to cope with cooking separate meals for everyone each evening and a lot of alternative ingredients are simply not readily available. Therefore, you must be happy to compromise with our menu and accept that we cannot offer a completely alternative menu alongside our usual chalet menu. Particularly, if there are more than a couple of different requests within a group, you may need to consider agreeing a menu acceptable to all or the individuals choose to avoid what they can’t eat. We may have to make an additional charge for costly alternative ingredients and more importantly for the cook to cover them coming in earlier to prepare different dishes.

Please ensure that we know about any dietary requests at least two weeks before you travel - if you wait until a couple of days before arrival or even wait until you are in resort, it may take days to source particular products, if at all and we may have to make a charge. Our chalet staff will be more than happy to chat through our menu with you during the week before your arrival and advise you about foodstuffs to bring with.

We cannot provide vegan or kosher meals and cannot guarantee a nut free environment or avoidance of zero contact with specific foodstuffs and therefore cannot accept liability in the event of an allergic reaction. We have no control over items of food bought in by other guests and we cannot always be aware of precise food contents of ingredients.

These are provided primarily to watch DVDs (bring your own), some maybe able to access local or international channels, some may not be able to access any channels.

These are generally included with our flights and we endeavour to get you on your way from the airport with the minimum of waiting time, however on some occasions there may be waiting times for other flights to join your transfer to resort. Transfer times may be affected by weather, road and traffic conditions. Your departure from resort may also be earlier than expected due to forecasted heavy traffic or poor weather conditions and whether you have guests for more than one flight.

If you have any specific enquiries about your chalet or holiday please call our reservations team.

What happens after Brexit?

With the UK’s decision to leave the EU (“Brexit”) we, along with everyone else, are not really sure how this is likely to affect your holiday, if at all. Any changes are unlikely to affect bookings made before 29th March 2019.
