A warm welcome awaits

On our chalet holidays, the accent is on informality, we want you to relax and feel at home and not have to worry about cooking and cleaning (that's down to your chalet staff). We aim to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in which everyone easily gets to know their fellow guests and like minded skiers, less formal than staying in a hotel and certainly less demanding than self catering!.

We offer an excellent choice of chalets ranging in size from 6 persons to 54 person and in a range of prices to suit most pockets! Some of our properties adhere to the original concept of a chalet holiday and were originally built as family homes, others are purpose built with modern conveniences. Whilst the majority of our smaller chalets are booked as a whole chalet ,  our larger chalets are ideal for singles, couples or for smaller groups keen to enjoy the friendly and informal atmosphere of a typical chalet holiday.

35+ years Experience

With over 35 years experience we are very aware that guests look for different things in a chalet holiday. Some set their priority as the location of the chalet, ski-in/ski-out perhaps or alternatively centrally located amongst the local night life. Some guests need to stick to a tight budget and are happy choosing simpler accommodation to have the chance to ski the top ski resorts, whilst others may insist on an en-suite bathroom or a sauna to make their holiday complete.

The Ski-Val range of chalets has something to suit most people's criteria and a wide range of budgets. Prices reflect not only standard of accommodation, facilities and location but in particular  the rent we pay for the chalet which can vary considerably between resorts!  We do not compromise on our catering or service so no matter what your budget you can be assured of good food and the same high level of service from our friendly well trained staff.  

With the exception of our larger chalets, our chalets are generally booked on a sole use basis so no other guests will be in residence however  chalet/resort staff or owners may live in so if this is an important factor in choosing your chalet please enquire about arrangements at the time of booking. On occasion we will accept an individual booking or small group in a chalet, but if you are  filling less than half the places, we reserve the right to move  you  if we subsequently receive a booking for the whole chalet. 

Children are welcome in any of our chalets at any time and we do not have a policy of "child free" chalets, if this is important to you please discuss with us at the time of booking.

Facilities

Many of our newer chalets have been purpose built and therefore boast facilities such as en-suite bathrooms and saunas, with some having jacuzzi's. All of our chalets have cd steroes, Ipod/Mp 3 docking stations,  dvd players and tv's to watch them on, so don't forget to bring your own cd's and  dvd's. A selection of board games are available in resort  too.

We realise how important wifi is to the majority of our guests and this is available free of charge. Whilst we do our best to ensure this service is continuous and uninterrupted, please bear in mind that in the mountains the capacity and connectivity can be limited. Access may only be available in communal areas and  not through out the chalet.  We recommend that if accessing or downloading is essential, you ensure you have your own data/roaming package for back up or use a local internet shop whose capacity is less likely to be affected by other users.  Unfortunately  we cannot guarantee the use of internet/wifi  and in the event of technical or other issues preventing access, no refund or compensation will be paid!

There is no doubt that our hand-picked staff make all the difference. We appreciate how important our resort staff are to ensuring you have the most enjoyable ski holiday.  Our team of staff are chosen carefully and their personalities are just as important as their cooking abilities. We employ people of all ages,  couples and friends as well as individuals. The positive feedback we receive from guests each year with respect to how helpful, friendly and welcoming our staff are, makes us believe that we are getting it right.  Our staff work very hard to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible and will do their best to assist you in any way they can. We hope you appreciate them and get to know as many as possible during your stay.

Resort Manager and Chalet Managers

The Resort Manager and team of Chalet Managers play a vital role in ensuring that you have an excellent holiday. They will collect you from the airport and accompany you on the coach to resort, assist you with ski school, ski hire and ski pass requirements. They are on hand throughout your stay to arrange that all important apres-ski, book restaurants,  help familiarise you with your resort and accommodation and to assist with any queries you may have.

Chalet Staff

Our smaller chalets are run by one or two chalet hosts. They  are keen cooks, most having done a cookery course and/or having catering experience, they are also cheerful, enthusiastic, hardworking and outgoing. To ensure you make the most of your holiday, they make your beds, keep the chalet clean and tidy, prepare, cook and serve your meals and generally look after you. 
The Chamois D'Or and Alpaka Lodge  have a team of friendly hosts to look after you with  qualified and professional Chefs to cater for you.

Cuisine - Vital ingredients for a good holiday

Good quality ingredients and imaginative menus are the basis for our chalet cuisine. Whilst it is impossible to "please all of the people all of the time" we do our best to present varied and appetizing menus that the majority of guests will enjoy. Having had particularly good feedback with  some wonderful and generous comments about our  menus, we are hopefully doing it right! Chalet holidays are always about good skiing, good company and good food. The resorts we go to provide the good skiing,our staff provide the good food and so it is just down to you to provide the good company! 

Our Chalet staff have a well earned day off during your stay, usually Wednesday for Val d'Isere and Tignes,  Thursday for St Anton. On this day, breakfast and afternoon tea will be laid out for you to help yourself and you are free to sample one of the local restaurants in the evening - our staff will be pleased to help with recommendations and bookings.

Breakfast

Start your day with a hearty breakfast to fuel your day on the slopes, choose from a selection of cereals (not forgetting a bowl of Skiers porridge!), fresh fruit and yoghurts, freshly baked local bread and choice of preserves accompanied by fruit juices, tea and coffee. In addition, apart from chalet staff day off and change over day, and assuming you have the  room, enjoy a varied cooked breakfast such as eggs, bacon and beans or pancakes.

Afternoon tea

On your return from the slopes, pop the kettle on and help yourself to a teatime treat with a slice (or two!) of delicious home-made cake or biscuits.

Dinner

Just imagine a casual dinner party with friends, now imagine that minus the stress of shopping, cooking, clearing up, ordering taxis, organising babysitters...... well now you can! Relax, your evening starts around 7.30pm  swapping some ski tales and banter over canapes and aperitif followed by a set menu wiith a delicious freshly cooked  dinner accompanied by unlimited house wine until coffee is served at the end of your meal. 

Chalet Chamois D'Or & Alpaka Lodge - Guests enjoy a hearty breakfast and home-made teatime treats as guests do in our smaller chalets. Although canapes and apertifs are not included, the set menu dinner here  is a relaxed and friendly affair. With tables to suit different group sizes, house wine to hand, you will soon get to know your fellow guests whilst enjoying a  wonderful 3 course dinner created by our fantastic head chefs.

Special diets/dietary requests/food allergies

Our chalet staff always aim to please and create menus everybody likes but they are working to a set menu. We provide a vegetarian alternative for guests that don’t eat meat or that evening choice of meat or fish and within reason and  plenty of notice our staff will do their best to adapt the chalet  menus for those with  any "genuine" dietary requests.  However, please  do bear in mind that chalets are mostly private houses and do not have vast kitchens or teams of chefs to cope with cooking separate meals for everyone each evening and a lot of alternative ingredients are simply not readily available.  Therefore, you must be happy to compromise with our  menu, perhaps simply avoiding certain foods or happy to have the same treats/puds more than once and accept that we cannot offer a completely alternative menu alongside our usual chalet menu. Particularly,  if there are more than a  couple of different requests within a group, you  may need to consider agreeing a menu acceptable to all or the  individuals choose to avoid what they can’t eat.  If you do want replacements and alternative menu, we will have to make an additional charge for costly alternative ingredients and more importantly  for the cook to cover them coming in earlier to prepare different dishes. 

Please ensure that we know about any dietary requests  at least two weeks before you travel - if you wait until a couple of days before arrival or even wait until you are in resort, it may take days to source particular products, if at all and we may have to make a charge. Our chalet staff will be more than happy to chat through our menu with you during the week before your arrival and advise you about foodstuffs to bring with. 

We cannot provide vegan  or kosher meals  and cannot guarantee a nut free environment or avoidance of or zero contact with  specific foodstuffs and therefore cannot accept liability in the event of an allergic reaction. We have no control over items of food bought in by other guests and we cannot always be aware of precise food contents of ingredients.

Children's Supper

We provide a child friendly supper with two courses of home cooked and nutritious food, at around 6pm for all children under 12years. We encourage you to chat to your chalet staff before arrival with regards your childrens meals so they know they are on the right track with their menu! If you have sole use of a chalet and you would prefer your children to eat a normal dinner with you at 8pm there is a £50 upgrade. Picnic Lunches - Keep your Euro spending to the minimum and instead order one of our good value picnic lunches available locally from your chalet staff. A tasty filled baguette/roll, piece of fruit, can of drink and a choccie bar should keep hunger pangs at bay!
